Greetings to all members and prospective members of the IALEIA Jamaica Chapter.
The IALEIA Emerging Professionals Group (EPG) is hereby inviting you to another Lunch ‘N Learn Webinar scheduled for Monday October 14, 2024 at 10am EST/ 11am CST. The topic for this webinar is “Analytical Writing Styles” with Presenter Luke Dawson.
This session will focus on analytical writing styles within a Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysis environment. Drawing on years of experience the session will provide guidance, tips and best practices for new and emerging analysts, with the use of real-life examples. It aims to help analysts produce products that customers / decision makers can understand in a format they can easily absorb.
Elements to be covered are:
- Considerations before writing
- The importance of a Terms of Reference and customer liaison
- Building blocks of a good report
- Structured Analytical Techniques like 5WH
- How to say what you want to say using ABC, BLUF, 433 paragraph structure
- The importance of a quality assurance (QA) and review processes
After graduating with a degree in Psychology and Criminology in 2004, Luke pursued a career within Law Enforcement. In 2008 he joined the United Kingdom’s Counter Terrorism Policing (North West) as a Researcher and later became a Counter Terrorism Analyst. He has worked in a variety of areas including tactical, operational and strategic analysis looking at many high profile and high threat cases.
In 2023 Luke joined the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) where he currently works as a Senior Analyst in the Opportunity Threats Assessment Capability (OTAC) section of the Threat Risk Assessment Capability Exploration and Research (TRACER). The TRACER unit produces assessments around threats and opportunities within new and emerging technologies affecting the UK’s Investigatory Powers Act (IPA) 2016 capabilities and how these impact the UK Law Enforcement Agencies and UK Intelligence Community.
